From coastal childhood to cutting-edge marine research at UNB
Growing up on the Pacific coast in British Columbia, just outside Vancouver, meant Cody spent time with his family fishing, camping and being out on the water.

Coastal roots, ocean dreams
Carlyle’s lifelong love of the ocean and its creatures was sparked during his childhood along the coast near Vancouver.
A calling beneath the surface
Carlyle’s’s fascination with whales, seals, and sea lions led to a focus on marine mammals — animals that are mysterious, fleeting and hard to study.

From a BSc at UBC to a master’s in Manitoba and now a PhD at UNB, Carlyle’s path has spanned the country in pursuit of marine science.
