Rafaella has always felt at home in the forest, whether in her native Brazil or her new home in New Brunswick. Together with her students, she's tackling climate change by studying the genetics of tree species to help forests thrive amidst ongoing changes.

Studied forestry in Brazil, including Amazon rainforest coursework and survival skills, learning solutions-based approaches to conserve forests.
TransX research lead
Leads UNB’s TransX initiative, studying tree responses to warming, leaf and growth phenology, health, and survival to mitigate climate change impacts.

Researches which tree species and genetic materials perform best in varying environments to inform future forest management strategies.
